Windows 7 Unofficial Service Pack 2 - 15th Year Anniversary
Welcome to Windows 7 Unofficial SP2!
Windows® 7 Unofficial Service Pack 2 (W7USP2) is an updated installation image for Windows 7, a very stable version of Microsoft® Windows® operating system released in October 2009. My extensive background in unofficial service packs for old Windows versions (i.e. Windows XP Unofficial Service Pack 4 and the W7USP2 original blog before that) has provided me with the skills necessary to prepare a clean, reliable Windows image that end users can use to rapidly reinstall Windows.
This 15th year anniversary version of Windows 7 Unofficial SP2 comes with a number of features:
- Windows 7 x86 and x64 ISOs with Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate editions are available. Non-SSE2 CPUs (earlier than Intel® Pentium® 4 and AMD® Athlon® 64) are not supported.
- All updates up until October 2024, plus .NET 4.8, Windows Management Framework 5.1 and .NET 6.0 SDK have been included.
- Windows Preinstallation Environment images and Setup files have been updated.
- A genuine product key must be provided by the end user to activate Windows. To change product key, use the slmgr -ipk <ProductKey> command from an elevated command prompt, replacing <ProductKey> with your own product key (without quotes, including dashes).
- Generic USB3 stack drivers (kudos to daniel_k, Mov AX, 0xDEAD, canonkon) have been included in all necessary wim files.
- Windows Embedded USB stack is used, so that Windows 7 can be installed on USB hard disk/flash drivers. Refer to the Readme file, available from the download link below.
- Telemetry has been disabled by appropriate registry and Scheduled Tasks modifications.
- Windows Product Activation is pristine - rearm counter is original.
- Windows Update satisfied - only the latest Windows Defender updates will be installed.
- Professionally cleaned registry and temp files.
- Included my own Rebase tool. This tool uses an unofficial method that compresses Windows Component Store to save space. The ISO images available for download below come with Windows Component Store compressed.
WARNING: Under a PowerRun command prompt execute the command 'rebase -online -decompress-base' BEFORE applying any updates or language packs (this is NOT necessary for Windows Defender updates, only for OS cumulative updates). This will prevent any component store corruption during update installation, which could render your system inoperable.
The PowerRun and Rebase tools are pre-installed in C:\Program Files\Rebase.
Please refer to C:\Program Files\Rebase\Documentation.pdf for further information about the tool.
In addition, the BypassESU tool has to be used to apply any updates released after official Windows 7 end of support in 2020.
NOTE: Applying a language pack to this image is not recommended. Doing so would require a full re-installation of all updates.
